Extra West

This enthralling trip comprises a half-day tour to rarely visited sites in Luxor. While these locations may lack the star power of the Valley of the Kings and other Luxor hotspots, these neglected gems are well worth exploring. Visit the valley of the Nobles to see ancient Egyptian daily life represented on the tomb walls, their inscriptions and colors well preserved. Also visit the tombs of the artisans who decorated the kings’ tombs.

Be amazed at the temple of the great warrior – King Ramses III, at Medinet Habu, and see the genius of the architecture, vividly displayed in this temple and the attached royal palace. Visitors come here mainly for the exceptional wall reliefs, including enormous depictions of gods, battles, and pharaohs.

Tour Plan

Our tour-guide will pick you up from your hotel or cruise ship.

1st stop – Valley of the Nobles:
Hundreds of tombs burrow through the Valley of the Nobles, the final resting place for many of Luxor’s elite. Wall paintings in the Valley of the Nobles depict daily life in ancient Egypt, representing many daily scenes including from artisans to animals. Exploring here can feel more intimate than the famous Valley of the Kings.

2nd stop – Deir el-Medina (Valley of the Artisans):
Building Luxor’s monuments took an army of artists, builders, and stone-cutters, with many living in Deir el-Medina. An ancient village here offers a window into their daily lives, complete with irrigation, homes and tombs. The site is fascinating to visit, a refreshingly human contrast to the West Bank’s royal landmarks.

3rd stop – Temple of Medinet Habu:
Rameses III built his grand mortuary temple on Luxor’s West Bank. It includes shrines and complex and delicate relief carvings. Medinet Habu offers well preserved art, and is among Luxor’s most significant ancient sites. Images of prisoner executions, hunting trips, and battles with the Sea People are a larger-than-life window into Ramses III’s royal legacy.

Finally, your tour-guide will escort you back to your hotel or cruise ship.
