Flanked by the Nile, the Nubian villages in Aswan are some of Egypt’s oldest and most treasured ancient ruins. Village residents are known to be extremely friendly and hospitable, adhering to their distinct Nubian customs and traditions, and speaking their unique language – Nuba, for generations. The latter is sacred to the community and therefore not taught to outsiders. In the time of the Pharaohs, these villages – a source of gold, were of great importance.
